SALT LAKE CITY – The countdown for Hans & Scotty’s 60 in 60 is on. Coming in at #3 is Utah’s Clark Phillips III (CB).
Throughout the summer Hans & Scotty are counting down the top 60 college football players in the state of Utah as voted on by the media (and a fan ballot).
“Not only one of the best corners in the Pac-12 but in the country,” Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said of his cornerback. “He has been playing for us since the first day he set foot on campus, starting as a true freshman. He is going to be a vital part of our pass defense.”

Utah’s Clark Phillips III
Phillips is a sophomore from Orange County, California. He joined the Utes in 2020 as a four-star recruit and the highest-ranked signee in program history after a successful high school career at La Habra.
In the COVID-shortened season as a true freshman, Phillips started all five games at right cornerback. He recorded 25 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception that ended up being a pick-six, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups.
This past season, Phillips started in all 14 games, finishing with 63 tackles, one tackle for loss, 13 pass breakups, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Phillips has two pick-sixes against Washington State in his career and another interception in the Rose Bowl against Ohio State. Also in the Rose Bowl, Phillips recorded five tackles and a forced fumble.
Phillips finished the 2021 season as one of three active Pac-12 players to record multiple career pick-sixes. During the preseason leading up to the 2022 campaign, Phillips was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press.
This fall, the Utes will open their 2022 schedule on the road against the Florida Gators. The Utes and Gators will play on September 3. Utah’s first home game is against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on September 10.
