SALT LAKE CITY – The countdown for Hans & Scotty’s 60 in 60 is on. Coming in at #4 is Utah’s Tavion Thomas (RB).
Throughout the summer Hans & Scotty are counting down the top 60 college football players in the state of Utah as voted on by the media (and a fan ballot).
“Big, physical running back,” Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said of his running back. “Broke the single-season touchdown record here at Utah. 230-plus pounds and really is a sledgehammer in there at the running back position.”
Utah’s Tavion Thomas
Thomas is a junior from Dayton, Ohio. He started his collegiate carer at Cincinnati where he played two games for the Bearcats before transferring to Independence Community College. His first season with the Utes was in 2021 when he appeared in 13 games with four starts. Thomas racked up 1,108 yards on 204 carries and a single-season school record 21 touchdowns.
After struggling with ball security in the first four games of the season, Thomas took the bulk of the carries in the final nine games of the season and scored at least one touchdown in each of the last nine games.
Thomas was named first-team All-Pac-12 last season and rushed for over 100 yards in five games. He decided to return for another season with the Utes rather than declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft.
This fall, the Utes will open their 2022 schedule on the road against the Florida Gators. The Utes and Gators will play on September 3. Utah’s first home game is against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on September 10.
