SALT LAKE CITY – The countdown for Hans & Scotty’s 60 in 60 is on. Coming in at #6 is BYU’s Blake Freeland (OL).

Throughout the summer Hans & Scotty are counting down the top 60 college football players in the state of Utah as voted on by the media (and a fan ballot).

“Big-time tackle for us,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said of his offensive lineman. “Can play left tackle and right tackle. Although still new to the o-line game, his athleticism, his size, and toughness allows him to be one of the most recognizable o-linemen in the country. He’s receiving a bunch of attention. We’ve got to keep him humble, keep him hungry. Looking forward to him taking the next step. He improves every time, every day, and every opportunity he has to play o-line.”

BYU’s Blake Freeland

Freeland is a junior from Herriman, Utah. He prepped at Herriman High School where he was the quarterback. His first season with BYU was in 2019 when he was a starter and has been in all three seasons in Provo. Freeland’s dad, James played linebacker at BYU from 1994 to 1995. His mother, Debbie Dimond was a BYU women’s basketball player and was an honorable mention All-American. She played from 1991-95 and is the eighth-highest scorer in BYU women’s basketball history.

In 2019, Freeland played in seven games. During the 2020 season, Freeland saw action in 10 games and appeared in 11 games this past season.

Freeland and the Cougars open their 2022 schedule on the road against the USF Bulls on September 3.
