SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau has concluded his second round at three-under-par to enter the weekend at three-over-par following his opening round of six-over at the BMW Championship.

Finau returned to the golf course on Friday morning in desperate need of a promising round following his woeful showing on Thursday.

Tony Finau Round Explained

He began with an opening birdie on the first hole before making bogey on the second and another birdie on the third to go one-under on the day through the opening three holes.

Birdies on six and nine had Finau making the turn at three-under-par.

Finau made another birdie on 10 and looked to be making a run entering the weekend. But consecutive bogeys on 12 and 13 took all momentum out of Finau’s second round. He closed with a birdie on 14 to conclude the day at three under and three-over-par on the tournament.

The FedEx Cup Playoff Format

The BMW Championship is the second of three FedEx Cup Playoff events. The top 70 players on the FedEx Cup standings are in the field. The top 30 players on the standings following the tournament will qualify for The Tour Championship held annually at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. The winner of The Tour Championship will take home a winning prize of $18 million, the largest winning purse on the PGA Tour calendar.

Entering the tournament, Finau was positioned fifth in the FedEx Cup standings, but following yesterday’s disaster, Finau was projected to drop five places to 10th. However, at the conclusion of the second round, Finau is now projected to fall to 11th in the standings. Six spots from where he began the week.

The BMW Championship Leaderboard

There is no cut at the BMW Championship. Finau will enter the weekend in a tie for 60th and towards the bottom of the leaderboard.

Australian Adam Scott leads the field through the opening two rounds at eight-under, while Corey Conners, Jordan Spieth, and the world’s number one Scottie Scheffler find themselves one back in a share of second.
