SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz will host Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves for the first time on December 9 according to Yahoo Sports Chris Haynes.

The NBA will release its full schedule on Wednesday afternoon though dates for several marquee games have already leaked.

“Minnesota Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert will face the Utah Jazz for the first time on Oct. 21 in Minnesota and will return to Utah for the first time as an opponent on Dec. 9, league sources tell @YahooSports,” Haynes tweeted.

The Jazz traded Gobert to the Timberwolves in early July for a significant haul of players and draft picks.

In return for Gobert, the Jazz received four future first-round draft picks, an additional first-round draft swap, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, and rookie Walker Kessler.

Over the past six seasons, Gobert has established himself as one of the most decorated players in Jazz history and has built what should be a Hall of Fame resume.

Since 2016, Gobert has been named to six consecutive All-Defensive first teams, he’s earned four All-NBA honors, three All-Star nods, and has won the Defensive Player of the Year award three times.

During the stretch, he averaged 14.8 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. He led the NBA in field goal percentage three of the six seasons, led the NBA in blocks per game in 2016-17, and led the league in rebounds per game last year.

Perhaps most impressive has been Gobert’s unique durability, having played in 90 percent of the Jazz’s games in four of the six games, and never playing fewer than 56 games during the stretch.

The NBA season is set to open on October 18 according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

“Sources: NBA’s 2022-23 Opening Night, Oct. 18 on TNT: – 76ers at Celtics – And as previously reported: Lakers at Warriors,” Charania tweeted.

The Jazz season opener has not yet been announced.
