Bees Bullets: Orlando Martinez Earns PCL Player Of The Week Honor

SALT LAKE CITY – Bees outfielder Orlando Martinez was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for his performance August 9-14 against Sacramento.
The Pacific Coast League announced the honor Monday, August 15.

Martinez drove in 12 runs during the week with two or more RBI in six consecutive games during the week, tied for the longest streak in Minor or Major League Baseball this season.

With Salt Lake’s bats struggling for much of the series, Martinez picked up nine hits and 21 total bases against Sacramento. He compiled a streak of 2+ runs batted in in six straight games, tied for the longest streak in Minor or Major League Baseball this season. Six of his nine hits went for extra bases; two went for doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs.
The sweet-swinging outfielder has three home runs, 18 runs batted in and has scored 16 runs for Salt Lake in 31 games this season.
Martinez is the third Bee to win the award this year, following in the footsteps of David MacKinnon (May 17-22) and Jose Rojas (July 12-17).

About Orlando Martinez
The 24-year old outfielder is a native of Havana, Cuba. Martinez is in his first year with Salt Lake and fifth year overall with the Angels organization. After starting the season with the Bees Martinez returned to the Salt Lake lineup in late July following a 39-game stint with Double-A Rocket City where he hit .305 with four home runs and 33 RBI.
This award is the third weekly award of Martinez’ career, having won the award twice with Rocket City on August 22, 2021 and June 19, 2022.

The Bees head out on the road where they will face the Reno Aces (62-48), Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Game one is scheduled for a 7:35 p.m. (MST) first pitch on Tuesday, August 16.
