SALT LAKE CITY – The New York Jets didn’t want to commit to any timetable for injured QB Zach Wilson.
After the Jets 24-21 win over the Eagles to open the preseason, all of the focus was on Wilson. Wilson suffered a non-contact injury in the first quarter of the Jets win.
Coach Saleh on QB Zach Wilson: "No update yet. We're going to wait on the MRI tomorrow."

Immediately after going to the locker room, the Jets said Wilson had suffered a knee injury.
“No update yet,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said in the postgame. “We’re going to wait on the MRI to get more details tomorrow.”
Shortly after that answer, Saleh was asked, “When we talked to you about Mekhi (Becton), you had said that the immediate test, you can feel if the knee is stable, immediately on the sideline. So when you assess Zach, was the knee stable?”
“I’m 0-fer, guys, with trying to decipher doctor language. I’m just going to let the MRI play out and I’ll figure it out tomorrow.”

Wilson’s injury came on a quarterback run play. With it being a meaningless preseason game, a reporter asked Saleh if Wilson should have gone out of bounds instead of getting additional yardage.
Saleh replied, “100%.”

The second-year head coach, who has been with Wilson since they drafted him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft, would not entertain the idea of Wilson being ruled out for the year.
If Zach Wilson is unavailable to play, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco likely becomes the starter for New York.
“You guys know how I feel about Joe (Flacco),” Saleh said. “Everyone does, the whole world knows. Joe’s a phenomenal football player. He’s having a great camp and he’s got a lot of juice left in the tank.”
