Bees outfieldeer Jake Gatewood celebrates after hitting a walk-off home run to lift the Bees over the Oklahoma City Dodgers on Saturday, August 6.

SALT LAKE CITY – Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Salt Lake Bees outfielder Jake Gatewood wasn’t interested in extra innings Saturday night.

The Bees hosted the Oklahoma City Dodgers in game five of a six game series at Smith’s Ballpark on Saturday, August 6.

Three times Salt Lake had fought back from a deficit to tie the game, but with two outs extra innings on the line, Gatewood stepped to the plate facing Mark Washington. After falling behind 0-2, Gatewood watched two balls even up the count.

The left-fielder crushed a 103.5 mile per hour rocket on the next pitch, sending it toward the opposite field where it climbed over the right field wall to give the Bees a 4-3 win.

And a field level view…

The win was the second of the series for Salt Lake as they aim for series split on Sunday afternoon.

About Jake Gatewood

Gatewood was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 41st overall pick in the 2014 amateur draft.

After spending six season in the Brewers organization and advancing to Double-A, Gatewood signed a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels as a free agent prior to the 2021 season.

After starting the 2022 season rehabbing an injury, Gatewood has a .234 batting average with 15 home runs and 38 runs batted in across 63 games.

In two season with Salt Lake he has 43 long balls, 33 doubles and has knocked in 122 runs while hitting .229.

Following The Bees

The Bees are currently 50-54, good enough for third place in the Pacific Coast League West division. They trail first place Reno (59-45) by nine games and are 1.5 games behind Las Vegas for second in the division.

The Bees welcome in the Sacramento River Cats (43-61, 5th place) for a six-game series beginning on Tuesday, August 9 with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. (MST).
