Jazz Alex Jensen To Coach USA Basketball AmeriCup Team
SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz assistant coach Alex Jensen has been named the head coach of the 2022 USA Basketball AmeriCup team.
The news was announced by USA Basketball Thursday with the tournament set to begin next month.
Jensen will be assisted by Capital City Go-Go coach Mike Williams and longtime Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski.
“Alex, Mike and Steve have extensive and diverse coaching backgrounds that will benefit our AmeriCup team as they prepare to face tough FIBA Americas competition in Brazil,” USA Basketball Men’s National Team director Sean Ford said.

Coach Jensen will be assisted by Mike Williams & Steve Wojciechowski.

“Accepting a USA Basketball coaching assignment requires time, energy and expertise, and we are grateful to each of these coaches for making this commitment.”
Jensen first joined the Jazz staff in the 2013-14 season after a successful playing career at the University of Utah and in Turkey, Spain, and Japan.
Prior to his time with the Jazz, Jensen made coaching stops at Saint Louis University and as the head coach of the Canton Charge in the NBA G League.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to coach the 2022 USA AmeriCup Team and look forward to working with Mike and Steve as well as a talented group of players,” Jensen said.
“I always enjoy my time with USA Basketball and am excited to be selected for my first head coaching assignment.”

Jensen is expected to be retained on Will Hardy’s coaching staff with the Jazz after Quin Snyder stepped away from the team in June.
The 11th FIBA AmeriCup will take place in Recife, Brazil, from Sept. 2-11. The AmeriCup was originally scheduled for 2021 before being rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2022 USA AmeriCup Team will be announced prior to training camp, which is set for Aug. 23-27, in Las Vegas. The USA will compete in Group C and face Mexico in their opening game on Sept. 2.
