SALT LAKE CITY – Zach Wilson spoke to the media following a training camp practice on August 2, 2022. Wilson talked about some of his teammates and the Jets team as a whole, but also covered expectations headed into next year and some of his distractions from the field.
As a QB who has had the spotlight on him for many years at this point, Wilson seems to be unfazed by what’s expected of him. He was asked how a year under his belt may affect his production and what’s expected of him.
Wilson’s response was perfectly confident and concise, “I’ve always had high expectations.”
“Whether you hit them or not, I think you always have to strive to be better and to challenge yourself.” Wilson said.
Social Media Scrutiny
Wilson admitted that he doesn’t have social media on his phone to help himself focus on the task at hand. Winning football games.
In fact, when asked how he deals with the daily scrutiny of being an NFL quarterback, Wilson simply replied, “Who is scrutinizing?”
Wilson said that he has taken steps to block out the noise ever since his days at BYU.
“I’ve heard it many times at BYU,” Wilson said. “You always hear people say ‘don’t look at social media’. There’s good and bad that comes from everything. So, I think for me, it comes down to limiting what voices I need to really hear.”
Something much different from BYU football, according to Wilson, is the defensive schemes. Wilson said that its common to see the same stock Cover-2 and Cover-3 defenses on the collegiate level. While NFL defenses can, and will, throw whatever is necessary at opposing QB’s to make them uneasy.
One thing is for sure, chemistry doesn’t seem to be a problem for the Jets. In a video posted to the New York Jet’s twitter page, the team is shown wishing Wilson a happy birthday.
