PROVO, Utah – The BYU football program has a solid collection of helmets.
From the traditional white lid with royal blue decals to a “blue lightning” helmet, BYU players have some nice options.
If BYU wants to expand its helmet collection, one fan has a suggestion.

The logo used on this helmet from BYU fan Jason Stowell is called the “Atari Coug.” Atari Coug is a logo that has been a fixture with the Cougar Club for many years. Inside LaVell Edwards Stadium, signage still points to the Cougar Club room in the Southwest corner of the venue, using this logo to this day.
The chrome helmet with a royal blue logo and stripes is a solid look. BYU has never had a chrome helmet in its history. They once wore gray helmets in the late 1950s.
BYU Director of Football Operations Billy Nixon has always been a fan of getting input from Cougar fans on helmet designs, uniform concepts, and more. So maybe a helmet with this logo could end up in BYU’s rotation one day.
Last season, BYU football wore eight different helmet combinations.
An alternate logo has appeared on team-issued BYU football gear this year
During the summer conditioning drills this off-season, the BYU football team wore a lot of team-issued gear that featured the “Beet Digger Coug.” The Beet Digger Cougar was a staple for BYU in the 1980s and early 90s.
