SALT LAKE CITY – Utah State running back Calvin Tyler Jr. has made a splash in Logan for Utah State but it was the connections he had that landed him at USU.

After spending four seasons with Oregon State, Calvin Tyler decided to leave and ended up at Utah State where he will finish his college football career.

Tyler joined Hans Olsen and Scott Garrard on the KSL Sports Zone on Thursday and talked about how he ended up at Utah State.

“I had a great relationship with coach (Chuckie) Keeton,” Tyler said. “A lot of people don’t know this, when I was at Oregon State with Gary Andersen’s staff, Chuckie Keeton was a GA. He was the one that picked me and my family up on my official visit. With him being from Texas, we were real tight. When he got here (Utah State), when I went into the portal, I knew where I was going. There was no doubt that I was going to come play for him.”

After rushing for 124 yards in 14 games played for Oregon State, Tyler had an opportunity to face his former team in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl and the Aggies beat the Beavers.

“Man, it felt great to end the year like that,” Tyler said. “I told the team before we played them (Oregon State) that we were going to beat them. You could see the guys have another sense of urgency. Even though it was a bowl game, we treated it like another business trip. We wanted to end the season with a win.”

This past season for Utah State, Tyler played in 12 games with 11 starts, finishing with 196 carries for 884 yards and seven touchdowns. He led the Aggies in each category.

Tyler and the Aggies open their 2022 schedule at home against the UConn Huskies on Saturday, August 27. A week after hosting the Huskies, Utah State will travel to Alabama to play the Crimson Tide of the SEC. Alabama and Utah State will play on September 3.

Every Utah State game can be heard on the KSL Sports Zone.
