SALT LAKE CITY – The Ray Guy Award preseason watchlist was announced on Wednesday which included BYU’s Ryan Rehkow and USU’s Stephen Kotsanlee.

The Ray Guy Award is given annually to the top punter in college football and Kotsanlee and Rehkow are two guys in the state to keep an eye on for that award. The Augusta Sports Council (ASC) selected the players on the watchlist.

Kotsanlee appeared in all 14 games last season for the Aggies as the holder on extra points and field goals while also punting. He punted 53 times and averaged 42.5 yards per attempt. That average is the ninth-best single-season average in school history and ranked seventh in the Mountain West and 50th in the country.

Among the 53 punts from Kotsanlee last season, nine of them traveled 50 yards or more, 19 were downed inside the 20-yard line and 20 were fair caught. Just two punts were touchbacks. Through his Utah State career, the Melbourne, Australia native has 90 punts for an average of 41.8 yards per attempt, which is tied for seventh in school history.

Kotsanlee was also a first-team All-Mountain West selection by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele.

Rehkow is a sophomore from Veradale, Washington. He finished the 2021 season ranked fifth in the nation with a punting average of 48.5, which was the highest among freshman punters in the country. Last season, Rehkow appeared in all 13 games for the Cougars as a punter and the holder for field goals and extra points. He had 16 of his 40 punts land inside the 20-yard line.

Rehkow set a BYU record with an 83-yard punt against Arizona State. Pro Football Network named Rehkow to their 2021 All-Independent Team and was award Independent Punter of the Year.

It’s the second straight season that Rehkow is named to the Ray Guy Award preseason watchlist.

The winner of the Ray Guy Award will be announced on December 8.
