SALT LAKE CITY – Three tight ends with local ties including Dalton Kincaid, Isaac Rex, and Cameron Latu have been named to the John Mackey Award watch list.

The John Mackey Award is given annually to the best tight end in the country and they have highlighted Kincaid, Rex and Latu as players to watch this season.

Kincaid plays for the Utes, Rex is a standout TE at BYU and Latu is a rising star at Alabama that prepped at Olympus High School.

Dalton Kincaid

Kincaid is a senior from Las Vegas, Nevada. He transferred to Utah from San Diego in 2020 and played in all five games during that COVID-shortened season, recording one catch for 14 yards against USC.

This past season, Kincaid had a breakout campaign for the Utes. He saw action in all 14 games with 13 starts, catching 36 passes for 510 yards and eight touchdowns. The Las Vegas native earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention recognition. Despite receiving an invite to go to the NFL Combine this off-season, Kincaid turned down the opportunity and decided to return to the Utes for his senior season.

Kincaid is one of eight Pac-12 tight ends to be named to the watch list.

Isaac Rex

Rex is a sophomore from San Clemente, California. He joined BYU in 2019 after serving a two-year church mission in Samoa. In 2019, Rex played in just three games, recording one catch for 23 yards. During the 2020 season, Rex appeared in 12 games, hauling in 37 receptions for 429 yards and 12 touchdowns.

This past season, Rex played in 12 games, finishing with 18 receptions for 191 yards and three touchdowns.

Cameron Latu

Latu is a redshirt senior from Salt Lake City, Utah. He joined the Crimson Tide in 2018 when he used his redshirt. In 2019, Latu saw time in 11 games on special teams. During the 2020 season, he appeared in 12 games on special teams. The 2021 season was a breakout year for Latu. He set the Alabama record for touchdown catches by a tight end with eight, surpassing Irv Smith Jr.’s record of seven in 2018.

Last season, Latu played in 15 games, hauling in 26 catches for 410 yards and eight touchdowns.

Latu is one of 11 SEC tight ends to be named to the watch list.
