SALT LAKE CITY – Though the New York Knicks seem like front runners to land Donovan Mitchell, the Utah Jazz are in no rush to trade their All-Star guard.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, while the Jazz and Knicks have discussed a Mitchell trade, no deal is imminent.
“For Utah, they have time on their side here with the long-term contract with Mitchell,” Wojanrowksi said on an ESPN broadcast.

The NBA insider first reported that the Jazz were listening to trade offers for Mitchell on Tuesday, and by Wednesday night, The Athletic was reporting that the Knicks had been involved in conversations with the Jazz about the three-time All-Star.
According to Wojnarowski on Friday, those conversations were only cursory.
“They have a sense of what a structure might look like — I think [of what] a number of different structures could look like with the Knicks,” Wojnarowski said.
“They’ll continue to talk to those around the league, I would expect New York and Utah to revisit it, perhaps revisit that conversation in the coming weeks.”
That report coincides with The Athletic’s Shams Charania who Thursday night said on NBA TV that any Mitchell trade with the Knicks could still be several weeks, if not several months out.
Shams Charania, when asked about trade talks between Utah and New York on the NBA TV broadcast, says he “expects this to be a dance that plays out over the next two-to-three weeks or the rest of the offseason.”

After trading Rudy Gobert t the Minnesota Timberwolves shortly after free agency opened, Wojnarowski reported that the Jazz planned to rebuild the roster around Mitchell, but that changed earlier this week.
Mitchell, 25, is coming off his third consecutive All-Star season where he averaged 25.9 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.2 rebounds.
The guard signed a five-year, $163 million extension in November of 2020 and has three years, plus a player option for the fourth year remaining on his deal.
The Knicks meanwhile have a slew of young players and as many as eight first-round draft picks they could offer the Jazz in any trade for Mitchell.
