Tony Finau History At The Open
Finau debuted at The Open in 2016 and has since made the cut in every Open Championship with his best finish occurring in 2019 at Royal Portrush when he concluded in third place. Remarkably, Finau’s worst performance at The Open is a T27.
Finau’s ability to fight strong winds and control the flight of his golf ball with his ball-striking and strength has helped him secure a number of significant results in Great Britain.
His playing partners have not managed to find the success Finau has across the pond. Matsuyama, current world number 14, has played in seven Open Championships with his best finish coming in 2013 when he concluded his debut Open Championship in a tie for 6. Matsuyama has missed the last two cuts at The Open Championship.
Zalatoris, current world number 13, has only played in one Open Championship. In 2021 at Royal St. George’s Zalatoris was in contention following the opening round after he shot a one-under-par, 69, but he was forced to withdraw ahead of the second round due to a back injury. His second shot out of the heavy rough on the 15th hole sent a tingling sensation down the left side of his body and he was advised to not risk any further injury to his back.
Other notable pairings include:
Collin Morikawa, Rory Mcllroy, and Xander Schauffele.
Shane Lowrly, Justin Thomas, and Viktor Hovland.
Scottie Scheffler, Joaquin Niemann, and Tyrell Hatton.
Tiger Woods, Max Homa, and Matt Fitzpatrick.
Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, and Harold Varner III.
