SALT LAKE CITY – The countdown for Hans & Scotty’s 60 in 60 is on. Coming in at #27 is Utah’s Gabe Reid (DE).
Throughout the summer Hans & Scotty are counting down the top 60 college football players in the state of Utah as voted on by the media (and a fan ballot).
“Transferred in from Stanford, he is the brother of Karene Reid. Very productive at Stanford and we are excited to add him to the mix at the defensive end spot,” Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said of his defensive end.

Utah’s Gabe Reid
Reid is a senior from American Fork, Utah. This past off-season, Reid transferred to Utah as a graduate and will play his final season of college eligibility in 2022. Coming out of Timpview High School, Reid was the nation’s 33rd best defensive end and the No. 5 recruit in the state of Utah. During his senior year of high school, Reid racked up 100 tackles and 17 sacks.
After his high school career, Reid committed to Stanford before serving a two-year church mission in American Samoa. As a freshman in 2017, Reid didn’t see the field. During his sophomore season in 2018, Reid played in all 13 games, including four starts. He led the team with 5.5 sacks and was ranked fourth in the Pac-12.

During the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Reid recorded 27 tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks in five games played. This past season, Reid appeared in all 12 games with 11 starts, racking up 62 tackles, a team-high 10 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, eight quarterback hurries, one interception and three pass breakups.
This fall, the Utes will open their 2022 schedule on the road against the Florida Gators. The Utes and Gators will play on September 3. Utah’s first home game is against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on September 10.
