Rory Mcllroy Makes Quadruple Bogey For Just Sixth Time In Career

SALT LAKE CITY – Rory Mcllroy was the leader by one shot midway through the second round as he stepped foot onto the par 4 12th hole. By the time his ball found the bottom of the cup he was three shots off the lead.
His first tee shot was sprayed out of bounds left with his fairway wood. His second tee shot was sprayed well right. One hand fell off the club shortly after impact on his fourth shot and his ball carried past the hole into a greenside bunker. On his fifth shot, one foot was in the bunker and the other was out as he flew the ball out of the bunker, past the hole, and into the rough.
His sixth shot failed to make the green after chunking an attempted chip. His seventh ran three feet by the hole and finally, his eighth shot found the bottom of the cup.
Mcllroy was rattled. The 12th hole at the Travelers Championship is not known to be a difficult one, instead, most players make birdie on the hole.
Even worse, Mcllroy was playing very good golf leading into the 12th hole. Through 11 holes, Mcllroy had already rattled six birdies and just a lone bogey and was five-under-par on the round.

It was only the sixth time in Mcllroy’s career that he shot a quadruple bogey. His worst single-hole score at the Travelers Champ through 200+ holes was a double bogey.
Despite leading the field at 13-under-par, Mcllroy dropped to 9-under within a blink of an eye. Fortunately, Mcllroy is still easily going to make the cut and has plenty of golf still ahead of him at The Travelers Championship.
The fans watching were stunned, as were his playing partners Webb Simpson, and Kevin Kisner who made a birdie on the same hole.
The mistake gave Xander Schauffele a two-shot lead on the field.
Local professional Tony Finau is in the midst of his second round and is fighting to make the cut ahead of the weekend. Finau opened the tournament with a two-under-par round and through 13 holes on Friday is one-under-par. The cut line is temporarily set at two-under-par.
