Tevian Jones Returning To SUU Men’s Basketball For Fifth Season

SALT LAKE CITY – Southern Utah men’s basketball announced that standout guard Tevian Jones plans to return for a fifth season with the Thunderbirds.
The T-Birds’ men’s basketball program announced Jones’ move with a post on Twitter on Wednesday, June 15.
Jones will return to Southern Utah for a fifth season instead of moving on from college basketball this fall.
The guard will be a graduate student during the 2022-23 season.

Thunderbirds head coach Todd Simon tweeted his excitement for Jones’ return to the program.
“Excited to have Tevian back for another year!” Simon posted. “He was 1st team All Big Sky in 2021 and 3rd team last season after a season ending wrist injury. Most importantly, he is a winner. In two seasons as a Thunderbird he has helped us to a 20-4 record in ’21 and 23-12 last season.”

About Tevian Jones
Jones is a native of Chandler, Arizona. Following a standout career at Culver City High School, the guard was a four-star recruit, according to Rivals and 247Sports. Jones began his college career at the University of Illinois. He played for the Fighting Illini from 2018-20.
During his freshman and sophomore seasons, Jones played in a total of 37 contests.

Ahead of the 2020-21 season, Jones transferred to Southern Utah University. During his first year with the Thunderbirds, Jones played in all 24 of SUU’s games. He led the T-Birds in scoring with an average of 16.9 points per game. Jones earned Big Sky All-Conference First Team and NABC All-District First Team honors during his first season in Cedar City. Southern Utah captured its first-ever Big Sky Conference title during Jones’ first year with the program.
Last season, Jones played in 28 games and once again led Southern Utah in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game. Jones scored in double figures in 21 games in 2021-22. He earned By Sky All-Conference Third Team honors for his play.

During his two seasons with Southern Utah, Jones helped the Thunderbirds to a 43-17 overall record, including 26-8 in Big Sky games.
