Iconic Utah Helmet Finds Home At The Rose Bowl

SALT LAKE CITY- Utah’s iconic Rose Bowl helmet will be displayed permanently in the 1922 Locker Room Museum at the Rose Bowl Stadium. The Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation tweeted the news out late Wednesday afternoon. It’s just one more way the Utes’ legendary first ever appearance in the “Granddaddy of them All” will continued to be remembered.

Making National Waves
Despite what ended up being a 48-45 loss for Utah against Ohio State, their first appearance in the Rose Bowl left an impression. People from all over the college and NFL football worlds can’t stop talking about the shootout that left the nation on the edge of their seats.

Between the incredible storyline the Utes brought to the already mystical game having to fight through Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe’s unexpected deaths, the power of the number 22, and the fresh helmet, it’s no wonder the attention Utah has received. Add in the “Moment of Loudness” and Bryson Barnes- a local pig farmer who came in relief of Cam Rising with minutes to spare in the game and you have a sure-fire classic that is movie-worthy.
1922 Locker Room Museum
The 1922 Locker Room Museum is located in tunnel 15A. It houses some of the most iconic helmets and moments from the Rose Bowl’s illustrious history. The museum is housed in a locker room actually used for the first six years during of the stadium’s 100 year run. During it’s use as a locker room, the likes of legends such as Knute Rockne, Pop Warner, and Wallace Wade could be seen roaming the hallowed halls.

Donations from the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation allowed for the locker room to be preserved and transitioned to a museum to house the Rose Bowl’s history. The former locker room, turned storage room, turned museum was repurposed starting in 2017, and now the Utes along with Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe have a permanent spot in it among some of the very best college football has ever given us.
