SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU and Pleasant Grove High QB Jake Jensen has found a landing spot. Jensen, a former preferred walk-on signal-caller for the Cougars during the spring of 2021, is joining the USC Trojans.

According to 247Sports’ Greg Biggins, Jensen recently received a scholarship offer from Lincoln Riley’s staff. USC needed quarterback depth behind Heisman Trophy candidate Caleb Williams. Jensen provides that and still has three years of eligibility remaining.

Jensen has had a wild road to USC. After committing to sign with BYU in the class of 2019, Jensen served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina. That mission was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He returned home in 2020. Then he was part of the BYU program in the winter/spring of 2021. Jensen participated in a quarterback room that featured six quarterbacks that year. But when given opportunities, he displayed nice touch on his passes.

Jake Jensen: PG High to BYU to JUCO and now to USC

After a semester at BYU, Jensen bet on himself taking the JUCO route to Contra Costa College in California. There, he began receiving scholarship offers from Cal, UNLV, and New Mexico.

In his one year at Contra Costa, Jensen told 247Sports that he took 26 credit hours in the fall semesters to receive his associate’s degree and have three years of eligibility plus a redshirt year at an FBS program.

Jensen appeared to find a landing spot with the New Mexico Lobos earlier this month, announcing he was committed to UNM. Then USC got into the picture and immediately offered him a scholarship after he took a visit to Los Angeles.

Jensen joins a USC quarterback room that includes Williams and Miller Moss. After that, the Trojans needed a third quarterback. Jensen gives them the depth they were looking for going into the fall.

As a starting quarterback at Pleasant Grove High, Jensen passed for 7,423 yards, 61 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions during his three years.
