Multiple Locals On Time’s 100 ‘Most Influential People’ Of 2022 List

SALT LAKE CITY – Time listed multiple individuals with ties to the state of Utah on the publication’s “Most Influential People” of 2022 list.

The Time100 list for 2022 was unveiled on May 23.

Members of the list include USA president Joe Biden, Oprah Winfrey, Apple CEO Tim Cook, WNBA star Candace Parker, tennis great Rafael Nadal, and a few people with connections to the state of Utah.

Time100: Most Influential People of 2022

Three people will ties to Utah were listed as some of the most influential people of the year.

Nathan Chen – Olympic Gold Medalist

Chen, a native of Salt Lake City, was listed as an “Artist” on the Time100 list. Legendary figure skater Michelle Kwan wrote about why Chen was one of the “Most Influential People” in 2022.

A three-time World Champion in men’s figure skating, Chen captured the singles gold medal at the Beijing Olympic Games in February. Chen also earned a Silver as part of Team USA.

Chen’s Gold came after a disappointing finish at the previous Winter Olympics.

Mike Cannon-Brookes – Utah Jazz Part-Owner & Tech Billionaire

Brookes-Cannon, a part-owner of the Utah Jazz, was listed as an “Innovator” on the Time100 list. Former USA vice president Al Gore wrote about why Cannon-Brookes was one of the “Most Influential People” in 2022.

The Australian is co-founder and co-CEO of the software company, Atlassian. He became a minority owner of the Jazz when Ryan Smith purchased the majority of the franchise in December 2020.

Cannon-Brookes is involved in a massive solar power project in Australia.

Becky Sauerbrunn – Former Utah Royals FC Player & Current USWNT Star

Sauerbrunn was listed under the “Titans” section on the Time100 list. She was joined on the list by fellow United State Women’s National Team soccer players Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan. Legendary tennis player Billie Jean King about why the soccer stars were members of the “Most Influential People” in 2022.

“Thank you, @BillieJeanKing ! Massive honor. As with all USWNT-related accomplishments, it takes a team! #LFG,” Sauerbrunn tweeted.

Sauerbrunn, Rapinoe, and Morgan recently helped women soccer players obtain equal pay to that of men from the U.S. Soccer Federation.

In addition to playing for the USWNT, the St. Louis native plays in the National Women’s Soccer League. Before joining the Portland Thorns in 2020, Sauerbrunn played for the now-defunct Utah Royals FC club from 2018-19.
