SALT LAKE CITY – Sergio Cordova blasted a ball past Sebastian Breza that found the back left corner of the net, putting Real Salt Lake in front 2-1.
Real Salt Lake hoped to maintain the momentum gained in a late comeback win over over Austin FC as they traveled north of the border to take on CF Montreal on Sunday, May 22.

Cordova took a pass ahead from Maikel Chang, finding two defenders between himself and the goal. Cordova split the defenders before firing a right footed rocket past the diving keeper and into the low left side of goal.
The goal was Cordova’s second of the season and first since he scored against New England on March 12. It was his first point since an assist that came against Toronto on April 9.
Leading 2-1, Real Salt Lake is looking to pick up three points on the road. Real has not won a road match since defeating New England 3-2 in mid-March.
Overcoming Adversity
The start to the 2022 campaign for Real Salt Lake has not been perfect, but progress has been made as manager Pablo Mastroeni continues his efforts to develop the club culture and identity.
Without question, Real Salt Lake has endured far more positive moments than negative throughout the opening 12 matches of the 2022 season. The club finds itself in the fifth position in the western conference, tied on points with fourth-placed LA Galaxy, despite having the lowest payroll in the league.
Gutsy road performances have headlined the start for Real Salt Lake. The return of Anderson Julio and Jefferson Savarino has also added optimism to the fiery fanbase. New ownership has invested in the gameday atmosphere and experience and Rio Tinto Stadium has thrived, posting five consecutive sellouts to begin 2022.
