Instant Replay: Cardinals’ Albert Pujols Makes First Pitching Appearance

SALT LAKE CITY – St. Louis Cardinals designated hitter and future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols made his first MLB pitching appearance.
Pujols, 42, and the Cardinals hosted the San Francisco Giants at Busch Stadium on Sunday, May 15.
As the game went to the top of the ninth inning, St. Louis owned a 15-2 lead and Cardinals Oliver Marmol told players in the dugout that he didn’t want to use another relief pitcher to close out the game.
Pujols overheard the manager and requested to close out the game on the mound.
“They were looking and I was like, ‘I’ll do it. Why not?'” Pujols said via ESPN.
