SLCC, after finishing first in the Scenic West Athletic Conference with a 45-8 record, experienced little resistance while cruising to the District 18 crown. After 12-1 win against Utah State University Eastern to open the tournament, the Bruins played their closest game of the weekend in a 6-4 win over CSI to advance to the championship game.
Daxton Purcer (11-0) got the ball to start the title tilt and got all the offensive run support he could ask for as the Bruins offense scored a run in every inning, including a six-run third inning that put the Bruins in front 9-0 early. Purser allowed three hits in six innings of work, striking out 11 Golden Eagle hitters.

11 Bruins finished with a base hit. Dalton Hodge supplied the big bat going 5-6 at the plate. Hodge added six RBI and scored four runs. Karson Bodily contributed three hits while Hunter Swapp, Cade Perkins, Brady Winget, Chase Taylor and Zak Blaszak added two hits apiece.
Bruins head coach DG Nelson spoke about how his teams willingness to buy-in early has led to success, “They just bought in and trusted in their own abilities. They all understand who they are. Don’t try to do more than what they’re capable of.” Nelson continued, “They are a very, very competitive group. They play the game the right way. They play hard.”
