Chargers LB Kyle Van Noy Praises Devin Lloyd’s Leadership, Potential

May 9, 2022, 5:22 PM

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU and current Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kyle Van Noy praised the pro potential of former Utah and new Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Devin Lloyd.

Van Noy spoke to KSLSports.com’s Sam Farnsworth about Lloyd’s future during an interview on Saturday, May 7.

The former BYU star said that Lloyd has joined the fraternity and friendship for linebackers in the NFL that played in the state of Utah.

“It is a fraternity. We’re all friends, Bobby Wagner, Fred Warner, myself, Sione [Takitaki] Harvey [Langi]. I mean, the list goes on… It is a fraternity when you make it from Utah as a linebacker,” Van Noy said. “We’re all very proud of him”

Van Noy continued by highlighting Lloyd’s qualities that made him a first round pick by the Jaguars in the 2022 NFL Draft.

“I’ve watched him over the years and seeing his growth in play and I want to shout out his leadership. His leadership is phenomenal,” the Chargers linebacker stated. “I think he’s going to do a great job in Jacksonville.”

Van Noy added that Lloyd’s IQ and leadership set him apart from other players.

“I think he’s going to be a leader on defense. I’m excited to watch him play this year,” the former BYU standout said of the Jacksonville rookie.

“He’s still a rook though. You’re still a rook, Lloyd,” Van Noy jokingly finished.

About Kyle Van Noy

Prior to his time in the league, Van Noy played at BYU from 2o10-13.

After a standout career at BYU, Van Noy was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Van Noy played the next three and a half seasons with the Patriots and helped New England win a pair of Super Bowls.

After the 2019 season, the linebacker signed with the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins released Van Noy after one season in South Beach and he returned to New England on a two-year deal.

The 2021 season was the lone year of Van Noy’s second stint with the Patriots.

Van Noy signed with the Chargers earlier in May.

In 111 career games, the two-time Super Bowl champ has recorded 424 total tackles, 288 solo tackles, 28.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, three interceptions, and one touchdown.

Lloyd was the second linebacker taken in the draft. Jacksonville traded up to take Lloyd with the No. 27 overall pick.

The former Utah standout will join a Jaguars team that posted a 3-14 record in 2021.

The Chula Vista, California native played for the Utes from 2018-21.

As a senior in 2021, Lloyd recorded 111 total tackles, 66 solo tackles, eight sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four interceptions, six pass breakups, and two touchdowns.

During his Utah career, Lloyd had 256 total tackles, 150 solo tackles, 16.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, five interceptions, eight pass breakups, and three touchdowns.
