Report: Sacramento Kings Hire Golden State Assistant As Head Coach

SALT LAKE CITY – The Sacramento Kings hired Golden State Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown as the team’s next head coach, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The NBA insider reported the hire on Sunday, May 8.
“The Sacramento Kings have agreed with Golden State assistant Mike Brown on a four-year contract to become the franchise’s next coach, sources tell ESPN,” Wojnarowski tweeted.
Brown will take over for Alvin Gentry, who was not retained following the 2021-22 regular season. Gentry served as Sacramento’s interim head coach after the Kings fired Luke Walton early in the season.

About Mike Brown
The Kings’ job will be Brown’s fourth stint as a head coach in the NBA.
The 52-year-old native of Columbus, Ohio was previously the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Brown’s first job in the NBA was as an assistant for the Washington Wizards in 1997.
After his time with the Wizards, Brown was an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers.
He was hired as a first-time head coach by the Cavs in 2005. He coached Cleveland until 2010.

In 2011, Brown was hired as head coach of the Lakers and remained with Los Angeles until 2012.
In 2013, Brown began his second stint as head coach of the Cavaliers. He was coach of the Cavs until 2014.
Since 2016, Brown has been Steve Kerr’s associate head coach with the Warriors.
Brown won the NBA’s Coach of the Year award in 2009 and is a three-time NBA champion as an assistant coach.
