PROVO, Utah – Did BYU football land its quarterback of the future in the Big 12 era? Springville High signal-caller, and a class of 2023 prospect, Ryder Burton announced his commitment to the Cougars on Friday night.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to play the sport I love. I am thankful for my Savior, my family and all who have helped me get to where I am today. Thank you @CoachRoderick @kalanifsitake and @CoachMeetch for believing in me as a player and a leader. pic.twitter.com/Rr8274n9Y1

Ryder Burton led Springville on a magical run
At 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, Burton passed for 2,301 yards last season in his first full year as Springville’s starting QB. He led Springville to an 11-2 record last year and an appearance in the 5A Championship Game against Lehi.

Burton pulled off a game-winning touchdown pass to his target Walker Deede for a walk-off touchdown to send Springville into the title game during the State Semifinals.
Burton is BYU’s only scholarship offer, but he also received interest from Washington State, UCLA, Utah, Nevada, San Jose State, Southern Utah, and Weber State.
Since last summer, Burton has been working with former BYU quarterback John Beck at 3DQB, where Zach Wilson and Jaren Hall also train.

BYU football adds a QB
Burton is BYU’s first commitment from a high school quarterback since the class of 2020, when the Cougars signed Sol-Jay Maiava-Peters from Washington, D.C. During the 2021 class, BYU added Boise State transfer Cade Fennegan, and in the 2022 cycle, they didn’t sign a signal caller.
BYU joins the Big 12 Conference beginning July 1, 2023. Burton is BYU’s fourth commitment in the class of 2023, joining Timpview’s Pokaiaua Haunga, Skyridge’s Stanley Raass, and Chelsea, Alabama’s Emmanuel Waller.
