Utah Men’s Tennis Ready For NCAA Showdown In Texas

FORT WORTH- For the third time in four seasons the Utah men’s tennis team will be making an appearance at the NCAA Tennis Championship. TCU is hosting the first and second regional rounds, and the Utes will be competing against #32 Ole Miss Friday at 1 p.m. MT.

Quick Hits
The Utes have made 15 total appearances at the NCAA’s in their history. Currently Utah is ranked #37 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in the Top 75.
Utah also has one of their doubles teams- Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman ranked #27 according to ITA. The pair has gone 18-2 this season with wins over the #17 and #32 teams in the country at the time.

The Pac-12 announced Wednesday that Capalbo, Espin Busleiman and Francisco Bastias earned Pac-12 All-Conference honors. Capalbo was awarded second-team honors while Espin Busleiman and Bastias were honorable mentions. 2022 is the first season since joining the Pac-12 that the Utes have had three athletes recognized in a single season.

Utah won four matches in Pac-12 play which is the most since joining the conference in 2011 and earned a fourth place finish. The Utes also got off to the best start of the season in 2022 going 16-0. The record before was set in the 2015-’16 season at 11-0.
What Happens Next
If the Utes beat Ole Miss they will advance to the regional final on Saturday. The opponent will be the winner of Drake vs. #1 TCU also happening Friday afternoon. The regional final will take place at 3 p.m. MT.
