PROVO, Utah – When BYU football announced a contract extension for head coach Kalani Sitake last December, it was deemed “unprecedented.”
By BYU standards, the extension was an unprecedented move as it also included new contracts for the assistants and new support staff positions.
This is all to ramp up the resources of the BYU football program before they move into the Big 12 Conference in 2023.
Staffers that are now in new roles:
Jon Swift (Chief of Staff)
Billy Nixon (Director of Football Operations)
Jack Damuni (Director of Football Relations)#BYU #BYUFootball @kslsports— Mitch Harper (@Mitch_Harper) May 2, 2022
On Monday, BYU announced eight hires to the football staff. Five of the hires were new people added to Kalani Sitake’s program. The other three were promotions for staffers already in the BYU program.

Jon Swift headlines the three promotions. The former Director of Football Operations is now the “Chief of Staff” for BYU football. According to BYU’s official release, Swift’s role will focus on maximizing football opportunities in all areas of the program. In addition, Swift will lead a team of directors on the support staff and focus on creating competitive advantages for the football program in recruiting, player experience, alumni relations and player development.
Billy Nixon, who has led the player experience and BYU equipment efforts, now goes into Swift’s previous role as Director of Football Operations.
Jack Damuni is now the Director of Football Relations. He will continue to coordinate community service, alumni relations, and the True Blue Hero program.

New Hires
Four of the five new hires have strong ties to Brigham Young University. Justin Anderson, a former BYU player and a staffer under Bronco Mendenhall, returns to Provo after six years at Virginia to be BYU’s Director of Player Personnel.
Anderson will be responsible for managing the football roster.
Former BYU defensive back Brandon Bradley returns to the football program after four years of working with BYU’s Student-Athlete Life and Learning Center. He will be the Director of Campus Experience, which oversees the planning and logistics of official and unofficial visits.
Former BYU basketball player Mike Hall is now working with BYU football as the Director of Player Development. He will focus on the off-field development of the football student-athletes. Hall has been an academic advisor at BYU.
Dan Wilcox has been working with BYU football as a team nutritionist since 2012. Now he slides into the role of Director of Football Sports Performance Nutrition.
Then finally, BYU hired Josh Hewitt from UNLV to take over Billy Nixon’s previous role as Director of Equipment Operations for Football.
