LAS VEGAS – The Detroit Lions selected Michigan star defensive end with the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft in Las Vegas on Thursday.
The Lions were in need of an elite pass rusher and they got one in their own backyard with Michigan Wolverines star Aidan Hutchinson.

Hutchinson had a breakout 2021 season with 62 tackles, 36 solo tackles, 14 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three pass deflections. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist.
The Plymouth, Wisconsin native spent four seasons with the Wolverines from 2018-21.
Here’s what Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN said about Hutchinson in his last mock draft:
“We’re going to be talking about Walker vs. Hutchinson for years to come. On my board, Hutchinson is the best prospect in this class. He dominated games in college, and he’s going to be a star for the Lions.”
The Lions finished the 2021 season with a 3-13-1 record in their first season under head coach Dan Campbell. They went in a different direction at quarterback last offseason by trading Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Goff.
