Britain Covey Details Top Special Teams Plays From Utah Career

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah football wide receiver and return specialist Britain Covey recently sat down with KSL Sports Tom Hackett to discuss the top special teams plays of his illustrious college career.
They were selected by Covey following a request from an NFL team. The plays are in no particular order and date back to Covey’s freshman year while also showcasing plays from his final collegiate season in 2021/22.
“It does not matter how good you are, how fast you are running with the ball, if you can’t catch the ball 99 out of 100 times or even 100 out of 100 times you will not play,” Covey said when asked what the best advice he has for the younger generation attempting to follow in his footsteps.
Over the course of Covey’s career, he was constantly looking for ways to impact the game, and more often than not, his impact was best felt when returning punts and kicks. As a receiver, Covey excelled, he was electric and elusive and almost impossible to stop within a 10-yard radius. But it was the plays that he made on special teams that will likely remain cemented into the brains of the Utah faithful.

The punt return against Oregon in 2021 before halftime, the kick return against Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, the punt return against Fresno State back when Covey was a freshman in 2015, among other big play highlights are discussed in the half an hour video.
Throughout the video, Covey shares insights and detail into what he thinks about, who he is most wary of, and how he exploits opposition tendencies to best put himself in a winning position.
The conversation is truly an educational piece on the world of football as it relates to returning punts and kicks. Throughout Covey’s career, no other player in the country found the success that Covey did in the return game. His ability to make split-second decisions at full speed with a wall of players hunting for you is nothing short of amazing.
Covey will go down in Utah folklore as one of the most captivating and exhilarating players to ever don the University of Utah jersey.
