Report: Real Salt Lake Welcomes Jefferson Savarino Back To Major League Soccer
SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake welcomes winger Jefferson Savarino back to the club following a two-year spell with Brazilian club Atlético Mineiro.
Fabrizio Romano, a global figure in the world of soccer, broke the news via Twitter. His report states that Atlético Mineiro will receive 20% of any future sale for Savarino. When Savarino left Real Salt Lake in 2020, it was reported that RSL would receive 40% of any future transfer fee for Savarino.
Details of the news are yet to be known. KSL Sports reached out to the club who has stated that they will not comment on the report by Romano. However, as mentioned above Romano is arguably the gold standard as it relates to transfer news within the game of soccer, his sources and contacts are almost always accurate.
The news comes just a day after the club announced the return of Anderson Julio who signed a three-year contract with Real Salt Lake following his year on loan in 2021. With the transfer window shutting on Wednesday, May 4, the club still has time to sign further additions to the roster. An upgrade at left-back is also a target area for Real Salt Lake, KSL Sports has learned.
Savarino once called Real Salt Lake home from 2017 to 2020 where he appeared in 87 matches, scoring 22 goals while adding 21 assists. Savarino was arguably the best player at the club during his time in Utah, his ability to dance around defenders and create attacking opportunities for himself and his teammates was special.
Now, Real Salt Lake will return a formidable asset to its attacking prowess.
Real Salt Lake returns home to host the LA Galaxy on Saturday, April 30, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The match will be available to watch via the KSL Sports and KSL 5 TV app or on KSL Sports dot com.
