SALT LAKE CITY – Donovan Mitchell has bi-lateral quadriceps contusions the Jazz announced after the All-Star guard left the team’s Game 5 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday.

Mitchell left the game in Dallas holding his left hamstring, though MRI results showed no additional damage.

“Donovan Mitchell was re-examined Tuesday morning by the Utah Jazz medical staff and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing on his left hamstring,” the team said.

“Results were negative. Mitchell has bi-lateral quadriceps contusions and will continue treatment. His status for Game 6 of Utah’s First Round series against Dallas will be updated on Wednesday.”

The guard left the game with 4:41 left to play in the fourth quarter after leaping, only to come down gingerly on the leg.

“I went up to try and finish,” Mitchell explained after the game, “and it tightened up on me.”

After the loss, Mitchell said “I’ll be fine” in regards to Game 6 in Utah on Thursday.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski also shared the Jazz’s expectations about the guard’s availability in a win-or-go-home Game 6.

“ESPN Sources: The MRI on the left hamstring of Jazz star Donovan Mitchell was negative today, but Mitchell is dealing with bruising in both of his quads,” Wojnarowski tweeted. “There remains optimism for his availability vs. Dallas in Game 6 on Thursday. The Mavericks lead the series, 3-2.”

After splitting the first four games of the series, the Jazz were blown out 102-77 in Game 5 in Dallas, the team’s worst offensive outing of the season.

Mitchell played a team-high 31 minutes but shot just 4-15 from the floor, scored nine points, had two rebounds, one assist, one steal, four turnovers, and was a -38 on the floor before leaving the game with the injury.

Game 6 between the Mavericks and the Jazz will tip-off at 8 pm MT and will be televised on AT&T Sports, FuboTV, and either TNT or NBATV. The game can be heard on KSL NewsRadio and The Zone Sports Radio Network.
