ESPN FPI Puts Utah Football In Top 15 In Nation

SALT LAKE CITY – More preseason hype surrounding the Utah football program as the ESPN FPI has put the Utes in the top 15 in their preseason ranking.
Utah football is the highest ranked Pac-12 team in the ESPN FPI at No. 15. Oregon is the second-highest ranked team in the conference at No. 23, followed by UCLA (34), USC (37), Arizona State (41), Washington (50), Oregon State (57), Stanford (61), California (70), Washington State (79), Colorado (86) and Arizona (89).
As far as teams in the state of Utah, BYU is at No. 46, while Utah State is at No. 88. ESPN’s FPI (Football Power Index) ranks the teams based off of their FPI score. They also project each teams wins and losses, along with percentages of winning out, getting six wins, winning their division, conference, playoff, making the national championship game and winning the national title.

Utah’s FPI is 12.7 with a projected record of 9.3-3.2. They have a 1.4% chance of winning out, a 99.3% chance of winning six games this season, 45% chance of winning their division, 29.4% chance at repeating as Pac-12 champions, 4.9% chance of reaching the College Football Playoff, 1% chance of reaching the national title game and a 0.2% chance of winning the ultimate prize.
BYU’s FPI score is 5.1 with a projected record of 7-5. They have a 0.1% chance of winning out, 84.9% chance of winning six games, and a 0% chance of reaching the CFP, national title game or winning it all.
Utah State’s score is a -4.6 with a projected record of 6.6-5.5. They have a 0% chance of winning all their games, a 76.6% chance at winning six games, 10.3% chance of winning their division and a 10.3% chance at repeating as Mountain West champions.
The Utes will face Florida this season in their opener in Gainesville. The Gators are No. 25 in the FPI rankings.
