SALT LAKE CITY – Former Salt Lake Community College and University of Utah pitcher Tanner Banks has made the Chicago White Sox Opening Day roster.

The White Sox announced Banks will be in the Opening Day bullpen when the White Sox open the season against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Friday, April 8.

His next appearance will be the first of his Major League career. Banks allowed a 4.70 earned run average in 7.2 innings pitched in Spring Training, earning a spot on a White Sox team with World Series aspirations.

The 18th-round draft pick of the White Sox in 2014 has played at every level of the White Sox system; finishing 2021 with a 4.53 earned run average while pitching for triple-A Charlotte.

As a Bruin, Banks was phenomenal while amassing a 16-0 record in two seasons while appearing in 38 games. For his Bruin career, Banks threw 112.2 innings, struck out 106 batters while walking only 50.

In two seasons as both a starter and reliever for the Utes, Banks threw 113 innings and allowed a 5.18 earned run average.
