BYU Basketball Guard Nate Hansen Enters Transfer Portal
PROVO, Utah – The first scholarship player from the BYU basketball program has entered the Transfer Portal this off-season. Just days after walk-on guard Jeremy DowDell entered his name, former Timpview High guard Nate Hansen is now in the portal.
Verbal Commits first reported the news.
Hansen, a 6-foot-3, 178-pound prospect, completed his first season with BYU after serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Arkansas.
A BYU scout team member, Hansen saw action in 10 games this past season, primarily in the final four minutes of games with the outcome already decided in favor of BYU. All six of his field goal attempts during the season were from three-point range.
Coming out of Timpview High, Hansen was one of the final signees in the Dave Rose era. Hansen scored 1,167 points in three seasons with the T-Birds during his prep career.
Moving pieces for the 2022-23 BYU basketball roster
With Hansen now entering the Transfer Portal, BYU has one scholarship open for next season. But in this era of dynamic rosters and glorified free agency in college basketball, there are still many moving pieces to sort through with BYU’s 2022-23 roster.
BYU is one of the final six schools for the top JUCO prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle in point guard Sean East.
Whichever school Hansen lands with next, he will have three years of eligibility remaining, with a redshirt in there as well.
Coming out of high school, Hansen held offers from UC Davis and Portland before signing a scholarship with BYU. The Transfer Portal allows players to return to the original institution if given the opportunity by the school.
