PROVO, Utah – Instead of a spring game, BYU football is hosting an Alumni Game for fans to attend. Many notable alums will participate in Thursday night’s game at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The most famous alum is BYU head coach himself, Kalani Sitake.

Yes, Sitake will revive his playing career by participating in the Alumni Game. It will feel like old times for the former BYU fullback as he will line up in the same backfield as quarterbacks Kevin Feterik and Charlie Peterson, two of the QBs during Sitake’s playing career.

Kalani Sitake will play on “Team Royal”

Sitake will be part of “Team Royal,” which consists of many players from the 90s paired up with some of the recent BYU players, including linebacker Isaiah Kaufusi and wide receiver Aleva Hifo.

On the other side is “Team Navy,” which will be led by quarterback Max Hall. Hall has been going through some drills with Ty Detmer and QB Elite’s Dustin Smith to prepare for the game. He will be teammates up with Harvey Unga at running back in the backfield.

Sitake isn’t the only coach on BYU’s current coaching staff participating in the alumni game. Offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick, cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford, assistant head coach Ed Lamb, and defensive end coach Preston Hadley are also participating.

Sitake was a player at BYU for the late, great LaVell Edwards from 1994, 1997-2000. He earned a free-agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2001 but was forced to retire due to a back injury. So now he gets the chance to dust off the cleats and show off his playing ability again.
