SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz fell to the Dallas Mavericks 114-100, and with the loss, dropped to the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

The Jazz were extremely shorthanded in the loss playing without Rudy Gobert, Hassan Whiteside, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Danuel House Jr. in the loss.

The Mavericks were led by Luka Doncic who had 32 points while Rudy Gay scored 16 points to lead the Jazz.

First Quarter

The Jazz started the first quarter well despite playing without their key defenders in the frontcourt, using their smaller defenders to rotate around the floor.

Donovan Mitchell carried the Jazz scoring with eight points while the bench added 13 points while holding the Dallas second unit scoreless.

The Jazz shot 48 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the three-point line while the Mavericks shot just 39 percent from the floor and 44 percent from three.

After one, the Jazz led Dallas 29-21.

Second Quarter

Though Mitchell failed to score in the second quarter, the Jazz hot shooting carried the offense.

The Jazz shot 11-21 in the quarter and 6-9 from three thanks to better than usual ball movement from the undersized lineup.

But despite the Jazz shot-making, Luka Doncic continued to punish the Jazz defense and had 21 points to lead all scorers at the half.

At the break, the Jazz led the Mavericks 59-58.

Third Quarter

The Mavericks opened the third quarter by knocking down their threes and quickly overtook the Jazz one point lead.

Mitchell left the game midway through the third quarter after the Mavericks Dwight Powell landed on his ankle, but the guard subbed in shortly after leaving the court.

Dallas outscored the Jazz 32-20 led by Doncic’s 32 points.

After three, the Jazz trailed the Mavericks 90-79.

Fourth Quarter

The Mavericks pushed their lead to 13 to open the fourth quarter and the Jazz never threatened to get back in the game.

Doncic finished with 32 points to lead Dallas while the Jazz were led by Rudy Gay who scored 16.

With the win, the Mavericks pulled one game ahead of the Jazz for the fourth seed in the Western Conference with seven games left to play.

The Mavericks beat the Jazz 114-100.
