Emmanuel Waller commits immediately after receiving an offer
Just one day after receiving a scholarship offer from BYU coaches Ilaisa Tuiaki and Preston Hadley, Waller, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, pounced on the opportunity by committing to the Cougars on Friday.
Waller announced his commitment to BYU on Twitter.
“After a lot of prayer and conversations with my family, I have decided to take my academic and athletic talents too[sic] … BYU … Go Cougs!”
Along with BYU, Waller received five scholarship offers from Power 5 programs. The others included Duke, Indiana, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, and BYU’s future Big 12 foe West Virginia. Waller also reports offers from Memphis, UAB, and Tulane.
2023 BYU Football recruiting class snapshot
With the addition of Waller to the 2023 recruiting class, BYU is now up to four commitments. Waller is the highest-rated commit for BYU in the 247Sports Composite Ratings. He’s currently the no. 427 rated prospect in the country and 56th ranked defensive end for the 2023 cycle.
The other three commitments so far in 2023 are Timpview’s Pokaiaua Haunga, Skyridge DL Stanley Raass, and Timpview athlete Hezekiah Anahu-Ambrosio.
March has been an eventful month on the recruiting trail for BYU football. The Cougars landed a commitment from Raass and now Waller while hosting hundreds of prospects at spring practices. BYU hosted four-star recruits Walker Lyons, Hunter Clegg, Spencer Fano, and Smith Snowden at a practice earlier this week.
