Not only to deal with the loss of Aaron Lowe but to do so in the middle of a season. They highlighted the initial shock and reaction to the news that Lowe passed away. Then they profiled how the team had that weight on their shoulders and turned that into playing their best football of the season.
You can watch the entire third part of the docu-series from the Utah Football YouTube channel, below.
22 Forever Docu-Series Focuses On Aaron Lowe Tragedy
Part three of 22 Forever started with a review of Aaron Lowe’s experience when he found out that Ty Jordan had passed away. According to Lowe’s mother, Donna, he and Jordan were supposed to hang out the night that Jordan died but Lowe decided to stay at home.
They also talked to Kyle Whittingham about the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship fund.
“The team voted on who would get that scholarship and it was Aaron Lowe in a landslide. He changed his number to 22 to honor Ty,” Whittingham said.
After that, they went to video from news organizations reporting that Lowe was shot and killed at a party in Sugarhouse. Cornerbacks coach Sharrieff Shah had to deliver the news to Donna Lowe-Stern.
Before going through the next handful of games, they talked about how Utah turned a corner in their play on the field. That all started with a team meeting with Aaron’s mother.
“The biggest game changer was when Aaron’s mom came and spoke to the team,” Whittingham said. “She was in town to help tie up loose ends for Aaron and get things in order. She was to leave that afternoon and I told that we had a team meeting, ‘Would you like to address the team?’ She thought for a second and then said ‘Yes, I would really enjoy that.'”
