David Jenkins, Lahat Thioune’s Careers At Utah Basketball
Jenkins has a lot of college basketball experience. He started his career at South Dakota State before transferring to UNLV after two seasons with the Jackrabbits. Jenkins spent two seasons with UNLV, with one of those seasons as a redshirt due to NCAA rules. He followed assistant coach DeMarlo Slocum to Salt Lake City and started the first nine games of the season, before coming off the bench in the final 21 games he played in.
Jenkins averaged 8.2 points per game in 569 minutes as a Ute.
Thioune entered the portal after last season concluded and before Larry Krystkowiak was fired as head coach. When Craig Smith was hired late in March, Thioune pulled his name out of the portal and returned.
The Dakar, Senegal native leaves Utah after three seasons. As a freshman, he played in 25 games with two starts in the 2019-20 season, averaged 1.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9 minutes per game. During the 2020-21 campaign, Thioune played in 20 games, posting an average of 1.4 points and 1.2 rebounds in 5.6 minutes per contest.
This past season, the big man played in 27 games, including five starts when Branden Carlson missed time. He averaged 3.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 301 minutes played.
Jenkins and Thioune join Riley Battin as Runnin’ Utes that have entered the transfer portal since the season ended. Utah honored Jenkins and Battin on Senior Night.
