SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s Tony Finau has committed to this week’s Dell Technologies Match Play in an effort to find form weeks before The Masters.
Finau, 32, has missed the cut in three of his previous four tournaments. His form to start the year has not been ideal. It has been a drastic change from just a year ago when he went on the best run of his career that involved back-to-back second-place finishes at The Farmers Insurance Open and The Genesis Invitational.
According to the Official World Golf Rankings, Finau is now ranked 23rd in the world despite starting the year at 15th. The eight dropped spots reflect the poor form Finau has been experiencing.
So, in an effort to find form before the biggest golf tournament of the year; The Masters, Finau will play this week in a Match Play event.

The Dell Technologies Match Play will be held at Austin Country Club. On Wednesday he will play Lucas Herbert, Thursday he will verse Takumi Kanaya, and on Friday he will match up against Xander Schauffele. Finau is a member of Group 7 and if he hopes to qualify for the weekend he will be tasked with finishing atop his group.
Schauffele is the top-rated player within the group entering the week as the ninth-best player in the world.
Finau last participated in this event in 2019 when he finished in a tie for 40.
