Southern Utah To Play UTEP In Second Round Of The Basketball Classic
SALT LAKE CITY – The Southern Utah men’s basketball team advanced to the second round of The Basketball Classic and will face the UTEP Miners.
The Miners are slated to host the Thunderbirds at Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas on Tuesday, March 22.
SUU reached the second round after defeating the Kent State Golden Flashes to open the tourney.
Southern Utah beat Kent State on March 16, 83-79.

UTEP played Western Illinois in the first round of The Basketball Classic.
The Miners defeated the Leathernecks, 80-54.
UTEP currently owns a 20-13 record, including 12-5 at home.

With the win over Kent State, the Thunderbirds improved to a 21-11 record this season.
Southern Utah’s game against UTEP is scheduled to begin on March 22 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
About The Basketball Classic
This is the first postseason with The Basketball Classic. It was created in 2022 as the successor to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Basketball Classic will have 32 NCAA Division I teams participate that were not selected to play in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT. The tourney uses the old NIT model, and matchups will be set after each round.
The Basketball Classic was founded by CollegeInsider.com to replace the postseason tournament, which was discontinued after the 2020 and 2021 tournaments were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
