Donovan Mitchell Reaches 8K Career Points, Third-Fastest In Jazz History

SALT LAKE CITY – Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell reached 8,000 career points during Utah’s road victory over the New York Knicks.
The Knicks hosted the Jazz at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, March 20.
Utah beat New York, 108-93.
Late in the game, Mitchell hit the 8,000 mark on his career scoring total. He became the third-fastest player in Jazz franchise history to reach 8,000 career points, trailing only Adrian Dantley and “Pistol” Pete Maravich.
Mitchell reached the mark in five fewer games than Jazz all-time leading scorer Karl Malone.

The fifth-year guard finished the game with 36 points on 11-21 shooting, including 7-12 from beyond the arc. Mitchell’s 36 points are a career-best at Madison Square Garden. He added eight rebounds, six assists, and a steal in 37 minutes of action.

Mitchell’s seventh three-pointer was his 209th of the 2021-22 NBA season. The shot set a new single-season Jazz record for threes in a season by an individual player. The previous mark of 208 triples was set by Jordan Clarkson last season.

This season, Mitchell is averaging 25.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
With the win, the Jazz improved to a 45-26 record, including 19-15 on the road.
