SALT LAKE CITY – The Los Angeles Rams announced that they’ve tendered former Utah and Super Bowl-winning kicker Matt Gay.
Los Angles announced the transaction on Wednesday, March 16.
Gay was slated to become a restricted free agent later that day. The Rams gave Gay an original-round tender worth $2.54 million.
As highlighted by Rams staff writer Stu Jackson, by tendering Gay, “the Rams have right of first refusal for any contract offer they each receive from another team. (Gay is) still free to negotiate with any team; if the Rams do not match a contract offer from another team, they are entitled to a fifth-round pick for Gay.”

Restricted free agents in the NFL, including Gay, have until April 22 to sign offer sheets from other teams.
The Rams have until April 27 to use their right of first refusal should Gay sign an offer sheet with another team.
Last season, Gay was named to his first Pro Bowl.
He connected on 32/34 field goals during the 2021 regular season. Gay was also 48/49 on PATs.
In the postseason, the former Utah standout was 12/14 on field goals and 15/15 on extra-point kicks.

Gay was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. After his rookie season in Tampa Bay, Gay was cut before signing with Los Angeles in 2020.
The Rams won Super Bowl LVI to cap Gay’s second season with the team.
