SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake will travel to the East Coast with one healthy goalkeeper ahead of their clash with the New England Revolution this upcoming Saturday.
Unfortunately, Zac MacMath, who began the season starting over the injured David Ochoa and contributed with two clean sheets through two games, has sustained a left leg injury and is listed as questionable.
According to the latest injury report released by Real Salt Lake, David Ochoa is still dealing with a right quadriceps injury and is also listed as questionable. The other two injured goalkeepers include 17-year-old Jeff Dewsnup and 16-year-old Gavin Beavers who were both signed to Homegrown contracts earlier this year but unfortunately are dealing with injuries and will hopefully return in time for the start of the Real Monarchs season on March 27.
Congratulations to @SLSGsoccer and @WGsoccer alum @tomas_gomez_18 on his return to MLS. With San Jose in 2015, he has signed with Real Salt Lake. His self-belief and dedication to his craft have paid off, as they have so many other times. We wish Tomas well in his new adventure! pic.twitter.com/CW7DNQd2UY

The only healthy goalkeeper on Real Salt Lake’s roster is Tomas Gomez who was signed by the club on February 27th, the same day Real Salt Lake began their 2022 campaign on the road against Houston.
Gomez, 28, joined Real Salt Lake from Sacramento Republic of the USL where he appeared in 19 games during the 2021 season notching 4 clean sheets. Gomez was drafted with the 60th overall pick of the 2015 MLS Superdraft by the Colombus Crew but never signed a professional contract with the Crew. Rather, Gomez signed his first pro deal with the San Jose Earthquakes on March 26, 2015. He never made an appearance for the Earthquakes.
Since 2015, Gomez has been bouncing around the USL. He has never appeared in a Major League Soccer game.
It remains unknown just how serious MacMaths left leg injury is or the status of David Ochoa’s recovery.
However, a Gomez debut on the road against New England would feel natural for Real Salt Lake fans who have seen their club, and its depth, deteriorate before their very eyes to start the 2022 season.
