Dixie State Ends Season With Road Loss To Grand Canyon

SALT LAKE CITY – The Dixie State Trailblazers ended their 2021-22 season with a 70-53 loss to Grand Canyon on Saturday night on the road.
Three Dixie State players reached double figures in the loss to Grand Canyon, led by Frank Staine with 16 points and nine rebounds. Dancell Leter dropped 14 points and six boards, while Hunter Schofield finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards.
Grand Canyon outscored DSU 34-27 in the first half and 36-26 in the second half. The Trailblazers shot 33% from the field, 31% from the three-point line and 56% at the free throw line.

Three Antelopes reached double figures, led by Holland Woods with 13 points and seven assists. Sean Miller-Moore and Chance McMillian each added 12 points. Yvan Ouedraogo and Gabe McGlothan had eight points apiece.
Grand Canyon shot 34% from the floor, 28% from beyond the arc and 61% at the free throw line.
The difference in the game was bench points with GCU with 24 and Dixie State with four. Also, the points in the paint favored Grand Canyon 30-14.
Due to the acclimation period from transitioning from Division II to Division I, Dixie State will not be able to participate in the WAC Tournament next week in Las Vegas. They ended their season with a 13-18 overall record and 6-12 in conference play.
