Real Salt Lake To Honor Albert Rusnák Prior To Kickoff At Home Opener

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake will honor their former captain Albert Rusnák immediately following player warmups.
Rusnák, who recently joined the visiting Seattle Sounders, will receive a special Real Salt Lake framed kit while a video of his Real Salt Lake highlights plays on the jumbotron.
The sentiment from Real Salt Lake is a show of respect for one of the most exciting players to come through the club’s doors.

Over the course of Rusnák’s 5 seasons with Real Salt Lake, he managed 41 goals and 39 assists in 140 games. He acted as the 2021 club captain, where he helped lead Real Salt Lake to a Western Conference Final. Rusnák was considered a key member of the organization, a leader, and a star on and off the pitch.
Unfortunately, the relationship between Rusnák and Real Salt Lake diminished. Rusnák was in contract negotiations with the club when it was announced that he was headed for the Pacific-Northwest.
It appears that Rusnák was trying to negotiate specific terms with the club and the front office could not agree on said terms. Regardless, the former leader is not with Seattle and joined the likes of Freddy Juarez, Craig Waibel, and Garth Lagerway as former friends turned enemy.
Noticeable Stadium Changes
Fans will also witness updates to Rio Tinto Stadium shortly after arrival on Saturday afternoon. New signs are present, murals are plastered on stadium brick and certain seats have been refurbished.
More changes to Rio Tinto Stadium are in the works and more details regarding those upgrades will be announced shortly. But for now, fans can expect a similar Rio Tinto Stadium experience to how they once remembered it.
Match Info
Real Salt Lake and Seattle will kickoff from Rio Tinto Stadium at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, marking the first home game in 2022.
