PROVO, Utah – BYU is gearing up to host Vanderbilt football transfer Gabe Jeudy-Lally on a visit. The 6-foot-1, 186-pound cornerback who battled in America’s toughest conference, the SEC, announced his upcoming official visit on Twitter.

“Provo, UT [emoji] Thursday-Saturday. Excited to see what @BYUfootball has to offer,” exclaimed Jeudy-Lally.

Jeudy-Lally was a starting cornerback at Vanderbilt

Jeudy-Lally started in 13 games during his three years with the Commodores, with 10 of those starts coming last season in a schedule that included games against National Champion Georgia and high-powered offenses Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Last season, the three-star prospect in the class of 2019 had one interception and it came against the UConn Huskies. The interception led Vandy coach Clark Lea to celebrate with Jeudy-Lally by headbutting him while his starting corner still had a helmet on. Lea, a former fullback during his playing days, said after the game, “In my heart, I’m still a fullback.”

Off the field, Jeudy-Lally is an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar and member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Jeudy-Lally’s success in the classroom at Vanderbilt allowed for the Charlotte, North Carolina native to graduate in three years. He will complete his degree at Vanderbilt in May.

Once graduated from Vanderbilt, Jeudy-Lally will be eligible immediately at his next college spot, with three years of eligibility remaining.

Since he entered the NCAA’s Transfer Portal, Jeudy-Lally has reported offers from Buffalo, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa State, Miami (OH), and Purdue.

BYU is actively pursuing defensive backs

The defensive back position is where BYU has looked to enhance its roster as they prepare for life in the Big 12 Conference in 2023. In February, BYU signed four defensive backs from the high school ranks.

Last fall, Jeudy-Lally said a significant area of focus in his game at Vanderbilt was being a press-man cornerback. That’s where BYU wants to have the depth necessary to play press-man against Power Five schedules.
